Dr. Eric Grossmann and his compassionate team understand that missing teeth can cause physical and emotional distress, and we are here to help. If you are missing one, two, or three consecutive teeth, our office can provide custom dental bridges. Our office in Valley Stream, NY, can use bridges and other solutions to completely restore the health, function, and appearance of your smile.
Dental bridges are porcelain restorations that look and function just like your surrounding teeth. Traditionally, bridges are anchored to dental crowns placed on either side of the restoration. These hold one or more replacement teeth in place, literally bridging the gap in your smile. Today, many patients choose to support their dental bridges with dental implants, which are prosthetic tooth roots. This option eliminates the need for crowns, and can prevent bone recession under the bridge.
A traditional dental bridge is supported by two adjacent dental crowns.
During your initial consultation with Dr. Grossmann, he will evaluate your oral health and determine whether a bridge is the best option for restoring your smile. Depending on the number of teeth you are missing and their location, you may be a better candidate for a partial denture or an implant-supported crown.
If you decide to receive a traditional dental bridge, Dr. Grossmann will resize the surrounding teeth to accommodate the dental crowns. Once the teeth are modified, he will take impressions of your bite to send to an offsite lab, where a skilled ceramist will design your restoration based entirely on your unique smile.
Dr. Grossmann is committed to providing a restoration that is natural-looking and functional.
Once the bridge is ready for placement, you will come back to our office and Dr. Grossmann will secure the bridge in place by attaching to crowns to the surrounding teeth using dental cement. Patients can usually resume normal activity immediately following placement.
In addition to traditional bridges, we also offer implant-supported restorations to provide you with exceptional stability and jawbone retention. Dental implants are the only treatment that can stop the bone recession that occurs in the absence of tooth roots.
Dental implants traditionally require two surgeries. During the first, the implants are inserted into the jaw. Over the next four to six months, the implants will fuse to the jaw. Once this is complete, a second surgery will involve preparing the implants to support the bridge. After a short recovery, the patient is ready to receive the bridge. Although implant-supported bridges require a greater investment of time and money, they can provide excellent lifelong benefits.
